The basic materials of ceramic foam is aluminum oxide (Al2O3), silicon carbide ( SiC), zirconium oxide ( ZrO2), magnesium oxide (MgO). Their field of application:

Al2O3 foamed ceramics: Aluminum, aluminum alloy and other non-ferrous alloy.

SiC foamed ceramics: Ductile iron, malleable iron, gray cast iron and other cast iron.

ZrO2 foamed ceramics: High melting point metal alloy such as steel, alloy steel, stainless steel.

MgO foamed ceramics: Magnesium and high activated alloy.

Foamed ceramics is a kind of low density (0.25-0.65g/cm3), high porosity (60-90%) of liquid metal filter. Its uniform texture, communicated three-dimensional network skeleton structure can effectively convert the turbulent flow of the solution into a very steady laminar flow and drain away the gas, so that the filling smooth, greatly improved casting quality

Foamed ceramics filter not only has high through-hole rate, high surface area, good thermal shock resistance, low flow resistance, high temperature resistance, good corrosion resistance and other characteristics, but also has excellent filtering function such as mesh screening, residue collection, implantation, etc. and can effectively filter out impurities small to tens of microns.

Ceramic foam widely used in metal melt filtration, high-temperature flue gas purification, solid heat exchangers, chemical filtration, special packing, catalyst support and photothermal transformation.

Effectiveness of foamed ceramics filter:

1. Filtered casting debris, reduce casting gas;

2. Improving casting metallurgical structure, increasing casting compressive sealing, enhancing elongation and tensile strength;

3. Reducing reoxidation defects of casting interior, reducing casting surface defects, reducing casting rate of spoiled;

4. Simplifying the gating system design, reducing the length of the cross gate;

5. Reduce processing time, reduce tool damaged and improve the finished surface quality of the casting;

6. Work without dregs or fracture phenomena;

7. Stable flow rate of molten metal. Flow rate of straight holes ceramic filter will be gradually dropped along with an increase in the number of captured inclusions; the flow rate of the ceramic foam is very stable, even in the case of much more inclusions will not cause clogging of the filter;

8. Good chemical stability, not affected by the pH of the liquid metal, without changing the chemical composition of liquid metal.
